I happened to be in the hospital the other day where I overheard part of a conversation that a nurse was having with her patient. Don’t worry, I was there for support, not because I was sick!
The nurse asked three simple questions to get a quick initial assessment. At first, this seemed normal considering the reason for why the patient had been brought in for observation and further diagnosis—cognitive awareness. But those two questions have since got me thinking about something perhaps even more important—life awareness.
I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. Those three questions were:
• Do you know where you are?
• Do you know how you got here?
• Do you know why you are here?
Not only are they three great questions to ask, but when inserted in a context of life-awareness, they deserve more time for observation, reflection, and evaluation than we often give to them.
Do You Know Where You Are?
Over the next few weeks, I will be exploring the title question for this post, “Do You Know Where You Are and How You Got Here?” I invite you to journey with me. Through a series of posts, I will make intentional, well-timed pit stops to observe, reflect, and evaluate aspects of our life journeys and boldly strategize some next steps to better prepare for the stage and season beyond beyond our current reality. Not only will we address the three primary questions listed earlier, but we will do so through a series of 12 Influential Life-Awareness Behaviours listed below.
The three primary questions will be the measuring stick—to serve as a starting point from where you mark the beginning your life-awareness journey, but it is also a progression line to identify how far you advance. Each behaviour is a form of decisive action complete with its own ripple effect of significance and influence, much like a tsunami quietly approaching the shore. Its rising wave is incredible and its wake immeasurable with nearly unimaginable results.
So, expect positive, healthy change alongside the necessary growth-challenges awaiting you down this new road intended to lead you toward a more meaningful, influential life of potential and possibility.
